PRZM is an original band hailing from the vibrant city of North Hollywood (NoHo), California. With a passion for music that resonates with our fans, we strive to create powerful melodies and unforgettable performances. We each had our individual successes in music and eventually our paths crossed. We combined our musical talents to form the original band PRZM which has been considered an Alternative Pop Rock Sensation!!
When Lisa was 9 months old, she jumped up on stages everywhere. Fascinated by the lights and music, bands would see little Lisa rocking out, hand her a tambourine, and invite her to join the show.
By the time Lisa was baby talking she was making up tunes and singing crazy songs through her Bugs Bunny speaker box to entertain her family.
Growing up, Lisa sang in Christian Day private school where music was a major part of her curriculum. And on Sundays, she sang in her Baptist church too.
By 12, Lisa was writing lyrics and melodies, but it wasn’t until 26 that she joined her first performance group, the Choraliers. There she met musical director, Steven Applegate. He noticed Lisa’s voice and vocal range, took her under his wing, helped her develop her natural skills, and featured her as a soloist in the group. Later Steven would introduce her to the cabaret scene where she debuted to a sold out crowd at the Federal and played Hollywood’s club circuit for nearly a decade.
Success came as a solo artist until a fizzled project led to a chance encounter with a bassist at a San Fernando Valley rehearsal studio. Hector asked her to write some lyrics for his band. As a result, Lisa is now the lead vocalist and songwriter/lyricist for PRZM.
Lisa’s influences come from all corners of the music world from the J-pop band Zone, Madonna, Heart, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, Luis Miguel, Juan Gabriel, and everything in between. She’s never stuck to one genre, making her extremely versatile, while impressing the masses by singing in 8 languages.
PRZM has proven to be an exciting new chapter for Lisa. The band is the perfect blend of skill and talent by all members, and it shows in the music they create. Lisa’s looking forward to sharing that magic with the world.
Born and raised In Southern California with music all around me. Both Grandfathers were musicians and with a mother that never stopped singing.
Early influences were the likes of Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. Growing older Led Zeppelin, Rush and Iron Maiden grew my love for Bass. With more recent indulgence in players like Victor Wooten and Marcus Miller. I’m all over the place!
Gifted an acoustic guitar at the age of 15 by
my grandfather, is where my musical journey
began. Learning music through high school and
College was exciting! Theory, classical guitar, piano, stand up bass were amazing experiences.
Recently I have been involved in recordings of
music and videos With Revolution Child (Dean
Ortega Projects), The Joe Walla Band, along with more personal and various genre projects in the studio. Ventured into the tribute band scene with the great musicians of Stevie and The Heartrockers and Tom and The Refugees. Now exploring the original band scene with the talented musicians in PRZM. I see hard work and fun times coming my way.
Some say if you learn about Jeff’s history, a curse will befall you causing hair to grow on your knuckles and stupid songs to constantly stick in your head.
It is said Jeff took a piano lesson once and learned 3 things: he doesn’t like piano lessons, knows where Middle C is, and has Relative Pitch - which sorta flattened out the learning curve when figuring out how to play keyboards.
Jeff has been writing songs and theme music since he was a little kid. Legend has it he only played as a session player in the studios… and then, sometime in the early 1980s, Jeff mysteriously stopped playing and writing altogether… and disappeared from the music scene entirely.
When questioned under extreme duress, Jeff would only say, “I lived in relative obscurity, barely escaping fame as I practiced being a responsible adult, darting in and out of people’s lives like an apparition - only to be recalled as deja vu.. and just as quickly forgotten.”
A couple of years ago, Jeff resurfaced and joined a band, playing out live for the first time ever.. (We hear Jeff is taking a liking to playing out now... and he’s writing again too!)
If all this is true (and we’re not saying it is or isn’t), that would put Jeff in the unique position of being a professional rookie… or a rookie professional.
The only thing we know for certain is that Jeff is really comfortable behind the keys either covering other people’s music or creating something new for PRZM to bring to life!
So, if you end up with “My Sharona“ or “I think I Love You” stuck in your head now, you can blame Jeff.
Steve has been playing drums since the age of 14. After numerous jams with friends and one-off shows, he joined an original progressive rock band called Fury. He was the only member of the band who wasn't of drinking age, so during breaks from playing at clubs and bars, he had to hang out in the parking lot. In high school, Steve was taking drum set lessons in the basement of his high school, and he always got in trouble for being late to Spanish class because his drum teacher was time-impaired. Steve was mostly into progressive rock, being influenced by bands like Kansas, Yes, Rush and Genesis. Later in life he gravitated towards progressive metal bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Threshold and Kamelot. Steve likes to be busy with his drumming, adding texture to music rather than just keeping the beat. His favorite drummers include Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart, Phil Collins and Bill Bruford. Steve has been involved in music his entire adult life, and over the years, he's been a member of five original bands, namely Fury, The Aloisa Peer Band, The Silence, Dead Planet, and currently, PRZM. In addition, he was a member of four cover bands, namely Subliminal Frequency, Trainwreck, The Others and NotAsFamous. Steve is very excited about the original music that PRZM has created, and looks forward to sharing it with the world.
Lisa Lavender started playing guitar at the age of 12, influenced by Boston, The Babys, Pat Benatar, Toto and even Helen Reddy, by the age of 19 she was performing with her first band at Gazarries. She has put several female bands together starting with Girls Next Door, then Girls Night Out, and finally Girls Talk who performed all around Southern California and the Sunset Strip through the 80’s. During that period, she collaborated with several producers including Helen Reddy’s Lead Guitarist Lenny Colton. In the early 90’s she was recruited as Lead Guitarist for the Female band Bombshell. They collaborated with Rikki Rockett from Poison on a Demo Production deal and was signed briefly with Paramount Records. Although she sustained an injury that forced her to stop playing for several years, she is back to creating the music she loves with the original band PRZM.
